It seems fading coral reefs in the Caribbean and this year may reach a record. We're going to Deerfield Beach (just north of Ft. Lauderdale), and we love to go snorkeling.  Anyone know of any specific snorkeling beaches in the area? One guidebook said there was some good snorkeling off Deerfield Beach, but since that could be anywhere along that stretch, we were hoping for a more exact location (such as in front of Hotel X or Beach Y just north of Causeway Z ).  Also, how is the snorkeling at the underwater preserve on Key Largo?  We're willing to sacrifice sun time and make the long drive if it's really top notch snorkeling.  Thanks in advance. E-mail or post is fine.

Its best to head to the Keys. Key Largo has Pennekamp St Park where you can get a dive boat out to the reefs. Charge is pretty minimal for snorkling, but they do require you to wear a floatation device.  Be sure to see Molassas Reef there.  You can drive further down the keys to Islamorada and go out to Alligator reef. The benefit to the keys over Ft-lauderdale/West Palm beach is that you can see a lot in 20-40 feet of water, shallow enough to swim down for a good look. Most of the dive site around Ft lauderdale/West palm Beach are in 60+ feet of water. =========================================================================== Mark O. E-mail or post is fine. Try Red Reef Park in Boca Raton. It is off AIA just north of Deerfield
